Picture this: it’s 1996. You’re a freshman in high school with your first boyfriend. (As real as it can be at 14 years old, lol) Then you get your heart squashed because he broke up with you for another girl after three WHOLE months. High school was so awesome.
Jayci and I HATED each other…until she and the guy broke up. Then we became instant friends (imagine that!) and it has continued to this day. She convinced me to join the cheerleading squad, much to all of my swim coaches’ dismay. She worked with me until I could do a back handspring (only on a trampoline though LOL) and I have always been envious of her ballerina and gymnast skills. We were the maid/matron of honors in each other’s weddings. When I met her now-husband Matt for the first time, I knew he was the one for her. Any guy had to pass the “KT” test, and he did with flying colors. In fact, I walked away from that first dinner feeling like I just gained a brother. In truth, I did.
Imagine our joy when we found out that we were pregnant with our sons- at the same time! They were due a week apart, and were born a week apart. We had both had our struggles with getting pregnant, so it was such a blessing to be going through those pregnancies together. Alex and Will are two peas in a pod- when they get the chance to see each other!
One morning, I woke up from a dream that Jayci and Matt were having another baby. That night, my phone rang. (Jayci and I dislike talking on the phone- I attribute this to the hours and hours we spent on the phone as teenagers) The fact that she was calling me meant that something important was going on. The first thing I said when I picked up the call was “you’re pregnant, aren’t you!”
Enter Ryleigh. All 3 days new of her. She is such a sweet little girl! This was such a special session for me. I love my job.
I usually do all newborn sessions here in my studio in Tallahassee, and Ryleigh’s session was planned for that at 10 days old. However, with my full-time job revolving around legislative session, that fell through due to budget conferences. My family and I were able to go to Jacksonville to surprise my dad for his birthday, so I begged Jayci to let me do Ryleigh’s session at their home. I am so thankful that it worked out! Ryleigh wasn’t a fan of me moving her, but I won her over in the end.
Thank you, Jayci and Matt, for entrusting me with your precious daughter at only 3 days old! She is absolutely perfect.
